Spring is finally making its debut here in Upstate NY. EVERYBODY heads outside, including our furry family. The time is now to prepare for the “meet and greet” of fleas, ticks, flies, mosquitoes, ants and other not so welcome guests. Protect yourself, your family and your pets with safe, non-toxic Young Living essential oils.
Today’s Pet Aromatherapy tip is a DIY Flea and Tick collar.
Flea and Tick Repellent Collar A Safe and Immune Supporting Choice – NO TOXIC CHEMICALS
Blend created by Yvonne Bourne
I recommend using Young Living Therapeutic Grade EO for the safety of your pet. This recipe has been created for Flint, our 72 pound black lab. If creating the blend for smaller pet collars you may choose to make up the blend and save half in a glass container and use to re-apply to the collar after a 2-3 weeks. As with any flea and tick preventive, continue to be proactive and check your pets daily for any sign of fleas or ticks. The best defense against seasonal pests is your pet’s own healthy immune system. Using YL essential oils will not only be a great deterrent for fleas and ticks but will support your pet’s immune system and build up all body systems.
Ingredients: Soft collar of any kind, cloth or leather
Add to 1 teaspoon organic apple cider vinegar: 1 drop each of Peppermint, Cedarwood, Thyme, Palo Santo and 2 drops of lavender, 3 drops each of Purification and Orange YL EO.
Mix the ingredients in a stainless steel bowl and soak the soft collar in it until all the liquid is absorbed into the collar. Allow the collar to dry completely prior to putting it on your pet. For small dogs or cats a more diluted version can be made by adding 2 oz. of vinegar and dividing into two batches. This blend includes the properties to repel fleas, ticks, ants, mosquitoes, flies. Other EO can be used added such as Citronella and Geranium. This collar should last up to 1 month, but if it does begin to lose potency, simply remake the above mixture and soak it again. You can add garlic oil if you so desire as fleas and mosquitoes HATE garlic.
I also make up a water mist of YL Purification and Palo Santo that I take to our lake cottage and use as a preventative spray on all of us when we take walks in the woods.
